Crops’ share in agriculture drops to 55.5%, reveals information

The share of crops in India‘s agriculture fell to 55.5% in 2019-20 from 62.4% in 2011-12, the ministry of statistics and programme implementation mentioned on Wednesday.

In a report on state-wise and item-wise worth of output, the ministry mentioned agriculture, forestry and fishing accounted for 18.3% of the gross worth added (GVA) at present fundamental costs in 2019-20, down from 18.5% in 2011-12 however the share of this sector in general GVA of the nation confirmed a “fluctuating development through the years”. It was 17.6% in 2018-19 and 18.6 % in 2013-14. “‘Cereals’ and ‘fruit and veggies’ (two largest teams of crops) collectively accounted for greater than 52% of the sector in 2011-12, and elevated to 55% in 2019-20,” the ministry mentioned.

The gross worth output (GVO) of cereals, at ₹336,400 crore, was highest amongst all of the crop-groups in 2011-12. Nonetheless, in 2019-20, GVO of ‘fruit and veggies’ was ₹383,300 crore, about ₹6,000 crore increased than that of cereals, in line with the report.

Uttar Pradesh recorded the very best output of cereals in all of the years, though its share in nationwide output marginally decreased to 18.5% in 2019-20 from 18.6% in 2011-12. The share of Madhya Pradesh went up significantly to 10% in 2019-20 from 6.2% in 2011-12, it mentioned. India ranks second worldwide in arable land (156.07 million hectares), third in manufacturing of cereals, second in groundnut, fruits, greens, sugarcane and tea, and first in jute.

“Worldwide as of 2019, the nation had the most important herds of buffaloes, goats; and ranked second in cattle, sheep; and seventh in hen inhabitants,” the ministry mentioned, including that it’s the largest producer of milk, third in manufacturing of eggs and fifth in manufacturing of meat.
