The commerce and trade ministry mentioned on Sunday that it directed commerce promotion physique Agricultural and Processed Meals Merchandise Export Growth Authority (Apeda) to not register contracts beneath $1,200 per tonne. Present contracts beneath $1,200 per tonne have been saved in abeyance.

“To examine the home costs and to make sure meals safety, the federal government has been taking measures to limit export of rice from India,” the ministry mentioned.
“The transfer has been sudden and surprising. The rice exporters will face large losses as many consignments are able to be shipped,” mentioned Vinod Kaul, govt director of the All India Rice Exporters’ Affiliation.
