India on Wednesday allowed an extra 10,000 tonnes of onion exports to the UAE via the Nationwide Cooperative Exports Ltd (NCEL), in accordance with a notification issued by the Directorate Normal of Overseas Commerce (DGFT).

Final month, the federal government permitted shipments of 14,400 tonnes to the emirates even because it prolonged a ban on onion exports until additional orders, which was initially enforced from December 8, 2023 until March 31, 2024.

“Exports of further 10,000 tonnes of onions… to UAE via NCEL over and above the quota notified vide DGFT notification…dated March 1, 2024, is allowed,” the DGFT stated.

Although onion exports are banned, the federal government permits specified portions to pleasant nations and on the premise of permission granted by the federal government to different international locations based mostly on their request.

Onions price $431.78 million had been exported throughout April-January FY24 with $187.5 million shipped to Bangladesh and $48.12 million to Sri Lanka.
