India has been making concerted efforts to make BIMSTEC a vibrant discussion board for regional cooperation as initiatives underneath SAARC (South Asian Affiliation for Regional Cooperation) weren’t shifting ahead for a wide range of causes.

The constitution was geared toward reworking BIMSTEC right into a full-fledged regional organisation with a “distinct worldwide persona”.
“India had pressured the significance of quickly consolidating this newly created regional group, and to shifting BIMSTEC cooperation to the subsequent stage,” the MEA mentioned.
“Tenzin Lekphell will maintain discussions with senior Indian officers on how you can make the BIMSTEC organisation and cooperation ahead in step with the mandate of the BIMSTEC leaders,” the MEA mentioned in an announcement.
“India leads the Safety cooperation pillar on the BIMSTEC platform that features catastrophe administration, marine cooperation and power safety, all of that are important for the attainment of SDG (Sustainable Improvement Objectives) targets within the area,” it mentioned.
