PMAY-G: Funds for rural housing scheme okayed until September

The finance ministry has accredited the discharge of funds for six extra months by means of September 2024 below the federal government’s flagship housing scheme, a transfer that can allow completion of about 3.5 million rural homes, a senior official informed ET.

The federal government had set a goal of constructing 29.5 million homes below the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) by March 2024 to understand its “housing for all” purpose.

Approval was granted to assemble almost all these. About 26 million homes have already been constructed since November 2016 when the scheme was rolled out revamping the erstwhile Indira Awas Yojana.

In a communication to the agricultural improvement ministry this month, the finance ministry has made it clear the funds must be utilised just for assembly dedicated liabilities below the PMAY-G as of March 31, stated the official.

“They (the agricultural improvement ministry) have been informed that there ought to be no contemporary sanctions below the scheme past March 31 or past the focused 29.5 million homes for now,” the official stated.

The agricultural improvement ministry had final month sought the finance ministry’s approval for releasing funds past March 2024 towards dedicated PMAY-G liabilities, the official added.

‘Not bypassing EC norms’
