Greater than 800 initiatives at an estimated value of round Rs 5.48 lakh crore have been recognized for implementation as part of the Sagarmala programme, Parliament was knowledgeable on Friday. In a written reply to the Lok Sabha, Minister for Ports, Transport and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal mentioned 14 initiatives associated to the event of latest ports with an estimated funding of Rs. 1,25,776 crore are a part of the Sagarmala Programme.

These initiatives are unfold throughout coastal states/Union Territories, together with Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka, Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Tamil Nadu, Sonowal added.

“As part of Sagarmala Programme, greater than 800 initiatives at an estimated value of round Rs 5.48 lakh crore have been recognized for implementation,” the minister mentioned.

Sagarmala programme contains initiatives from varied classes, akin to modernisation of present ports and terminals, new ports, terminals, RoRo & tourism jetties, enhancement of port connectivity, inland waterways, lighthouse tourism, industrialisation round port, ability improvement, know-how centres, and so on.

Replying to a separate query, Sonowal mentioned that to realize the general goal of 200 million metric tonne (freight) on Nationwide Waterways by 2030 fastened in Maritime India Imaginative and prescient (MIV), 2030, a goal of 120 MMT has been set for the yr 2024-25.

Throughout 2020-21, the entire cargo motion on NWs was 83.61 MMT.
